EHL and EHLP Teams Split Series with Avalanche

BURLINGTON, VT -- Both Lumberjacks squads were back in action this past weekend, each with a pair of games on the road against the New Hampshire Avalanche. The EHL team won on Saturday but dropped Sunday’s game. After the weekend, the Lumberjacks still sit in 1st place in the New England Conference with a record of 6-2-1. The EHLP squad also split both of their matchups against the Avalanche and still sit in first place in their conference as well with a record of 5-2-2.

EHL

On Saturday, Logan Discanio put the Lumberjacks on the board first, with a goal just over 6 minutes into the game. The Avalanche answered with a power play goal a few minutes later, but Austin Marini scored a power play goal of his own late in the frame to put the boys ahead 2-1. Jensen Dodge added another power play goal with 3:46 left in the second period, followed by another tally from Egan Schmitt just 47 seconds later to give the Lumberjacks the 4-1 advantage. The Avalanche scored a pair of goals in the 3rd, but the Lumberjacks held on for the 4-3 win and the first of October. David Reduzzi stopped 28 shots for his 4th win of the season. 

After a scoreless first period on Sunday, the Avalanche took the lead in the early minutes of the second frame. New Hampshire added to their lead late in the third period but Frank Mondi made things interesting with a response just 48 seconds later. Unfortunately, the Lumberjacks couldn't find the back of the net for the reminder of the game and lost by a score of 2-1. Reduzzi was busy in net, stopping 36 shots in the losing effort. 

EHLP

On Saturday, the EHLP squad went down on the scoreboard early but Tyler Penree tied things up near the halfway point of the first period. The Avalanche responded with a goal in the final minute of the frame and added another in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. However, the Lumberjacks came out flying in the third as Aaron Damren converted on the power play opportunity just over a minute into the frame. Robbie Baker followed up with a goal a couple minutes later to even things all up at 3. At the 18:01 mark, the Lumberjacks leading scorer Brandon Clark, found the back of the net to give the boys the lead late in the third. Cam Isabelle stood tall in the final two minutes and the Lumberjacks held on for the 4-3 win. Isabelle stopped 40 shots for his 1st win of the young season. 

On Sunday, the Avalanche broke the scoreless game on the power play just 20 seconds into the second period but Colby Anton answered for the Lumberjacks around 3 minutes later to tie the contest. However, the Avalanche responded with a pair of goals later on in the period as well as another tally in the third and won the game by a final score of 4-1. Isabelle stopped 36 shots in the losing effort. 

Looking Ahead

Both Lumberjacks squads will head down to Pennsylvania this upcoming Sunday and Monday for the second EHL Showcase and the first EHLP Showcase of the season. The EHL team will face-off against the North Carolina Golden Bears on Sunday night at 8:45pm, followed by a matchup the next afternoon against the Philadelphia Little Flyers at 12:15pm. On the other end, the EHLP squad will play two games on Sunday starting with a matchup against the Connecticut Chiefs at 5:00pm, followed by a game at 9:00pm against the New Jersey Renegades. The Premier team will wrap up the showcase on Monday with a rematch against the Avalanche at noon. All of the showcase games with be played at the Ice Line Quad Rinks in West Chester, PA.
