EHL and EHLP Set For Big Weekend -- Barber Named Star of the Month

BURLINGTON, VT -- This past week only featured a small handful of games combined between the Lumberjacks' EHL and EHLP squads.

EHL

The EHL team had a short break this week with no games since the 7-2 defeat at the hands of the East Coast Wizards (October 24th). Up ahead for the squad are a pair of games on the road in Laconia against the New England Wolves this Saturday and Sunday. The Lumberjacks have played the Wolves 3 times this year with all the games being on the home ice at Leddy Park. Vermont has also won all 3 matchups so far by a combined score of 20-5. In the most recent matchup, a couple weekends ago, Kyle McDonald picked up his 2nd hat-trick of the season and Chris Stangarone pitched a shutout in net, as the Lumberjacks rolled to a 7-0 victory. Stangarone has had a strong start to the season in net for the squad, posting a 6-1-0 record to go along with a 2.06 GAA and a .932 save percentage. McDonald on the other hand, leads the Lumberjacks in points with 17 so far this year.

EHLP

The EHLP squad had a pair of games on the road last week as they squared off against the New England Wolves on Saturday and the Boston Jr. Rangers on Sunday.

Going into the matchup on Saturday, the Lumberjacks had beaten the Wolves in the previous 4 meetings earlier this season, winning by a combined score of 20-4. Saturday wasn't much different as the Lumberjacks scored 3 times in the 1st to take a 3-0 lead into the break, with the goals coming from Jason Vogel, Zack Watkins, and Matt Amelio. After a period of no scoring, Dillion Mensing put the boys up 4-0 with a goal just 5 minutes into the third. The Wolves would get 1 back a few minutes later, but it was eventually answered by another goal from Amelio, extend the lead up to 5-1. Nick Koszelak and Jason Vogel tallied 2 more goals in the final couple minutes to give the Lumberjacks a 7-1 victory. Both Aiden Lavalley and Geordan Buffoline picked up 3 assists in the win as well, Eric Roy made 24 saves to pick up his 4th win of the campaign.

Switching gears over to Sunday, the boys traveled to Tewksbury, to battle the 2nd place Boston Jr. Rangers. This was the first matchup between the 2 division rivals this season. Going into the game the Lumberjacks were 8 points ahead of the Rangers in the Northern Conference. However, Sunday’s game wasn't in the Lumberjacks favor as they went on to lose 5-1. Lumberjack point leader Buffoline scored the lone goal in the game, his 10th tally of the season. The '99 now has a total of 23 points on the year.

The EHLP squad will travel to Laconia with the EHL team for a pair of games against the New England Wolves as well. Puck drop on Saturday is scheduled for 3:30pm, and the back end of the two-game set will begin at 9:35am on Sunday.

ANDREW BARBER - EHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH (OCTOBER)

Barber notched just pair of goals in 4 games during September, but flipped the script with 14 points in 9 total games during October. The '97 was also named the Defenseman of the Week back-to-back times to kick-off the month.

Back for his 2nd season with Vermont, the Lumberjacks have leaned heavily on their top defenseman, and will continue to do so as they battle for playoff positioning. As November begins the Lumberjacks are in control of 2nd place in the New England Division, and 5th place in the North Conference. The upcoming month includes 8 more games for Vermont, with only 3 matchups on home ice at Leddy Park.
