EHL Forward Set to Join Cardinals in the Fall of 2019

BURLINGTON, VT -- The Vermont Lumberjacks are pleased to announce that Andrew Bechard has committed to SUNY Plattsburgh for the Fall of 2019. Bechard spent both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons with the Lumberjacks EHLP team, and this year he has made a very smooth transition up to the EHL team. With another season of junior year now locked in for next season, the '98 forward will be primed and ready to go when he arrives on the campus of Plattsburgh in 2019.

"Andrew Bechard represents exactly what it means to be a Lumberjack," said EHL head coach and general manager Jim Mosso. "Andrew came to us two years ago and began his junior career on the younger team. Through hard work and buying into the process, he has climbed the ladder thru the program. He has been recognized for his great leadership ability and will leave here after next season to play for one of the best college programs in the nation. I couldn't be more proud."

In two seasons in the EHLP, Bechard racked up just under 100 total points including playoffs. For some the jump from the EHLP to the EHL is difficult, but for the native of New York, he's made it look easy. To date this season, Bechard has an even 21 goals and 21 assists, all while having played in every singe game for Vermont. Bechard took some time to give thanks and reflect on his decision.

"I started playing in Vermont two years ago," said Bechard. "The improvement I've made on and off the ice as a hockey player and person have gotten me to where I am today. I want to thank my current and past teammates as well as Coach Mosso, Coach Doc, and Mr. Lary. I especially want to thank my family for making the sacrifices they do for me to be able to play the sport I love. All of these factors have gotten me to continue my hockey career into college."

Bechard and the Lumberjacks have won three straight, and will look to keep the momentum rolling with a pair of games against the Boston Jr. Rangers this weekend.
